--exclude-from and a directory name that contains a hyphen
...sync. I have tried to escape the hyphen with a backslash, and replace it with an ampersand or a dot or an asterisk to wild card it. The command I am using is:
rsync -avze ssh --dry-run --exclude-from=/home/user/excl.tmp server01:/usr2/ /home/user/usr2/
Examples of excl.tmp file. This works:

This doesn't work (it only syncs the directory file named gale):

Note that rsync will happily sync other files with a hyphen in the name, it just fails to pattern match them when they are specified in...

Gale-Shapley Algorithm for R
Dear R-helpers,
I'm not a speciallist in writing complex functions, and the function still
very rusty (any kind of suggestions are very welcome). I want to implement
Gale-Shapley algorithm for R Language. It is based on
http://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/2312726 Gale and Shapley (1962) , and it
has evolved to

Opsview puppet module - purging hosts from opsview
...pe::Opsviewmonitored:0x7fada76aa250> at line 1
Did anybody ever dealt with purging Opsviewmonitored hosts? Maybe there is
an implementation of this somewhere? I couldn''t find one on the net and I
wanted to know if anybody has done it before I''m writing one myself...
Thanks,
Galed.

Managing dynamic instances with puppet
...h puppet currently). Will performing a purge on nagios
resources will cause ALL existing checks that are not managed by puppet to
disappear?
Has anyone ever dealt with this kind of dilema? Are there are any other best
practices to perform this?
I''d really appreciate the help!
Thanks,

Office 2000 / Windows 2000
Hi
I have just upgraded to Samba 3.0.0 and have found a problem with Office
2000 running on Windows 2000. Files opened in Word or Excel open fine and
can be saved once without a problem but the action of saving sets the read
only attribute of the file and so subsequent saves do not work. The only way
round this is to close the file, go to Explorer and select the properties of
the file and then un

Reusing host names with puppet and SSL certificates

Once solution that I thought about is to generate a certificate for each
hostname and make sure that when an instance comes up it gets the specific
certificate that was already generated and signed by the master. Is this a
good idea? Any other thoughts about this?
Thanks,
Galed.

HP Deskjet drivers, Samba and Cups
...in the Cups spool directory thay appear briefly and
then vanish, for jobs that do make it to the printer the file is present for
longer as the printer loads the file.
I can only assume this is a problem with Samba or Cups with HP desklet
drivers? Has anyone else seen this? Any Idea?

Connection caching?
Hey all,
on the distcc mailing list, a thread about load balancing
got a bit out of hand, and we started thinking about
moving fsh-like connection caching into ssh itself
to get rid of the overhead of starting up the python
interpreter to run rsh.
(Interestingly, mit's "rex", described at
http://www.lcs.mit.edu/publications/pubs/pdf/MIT-LCS-TR-884.pdf,

I got the following message (in french, sorry):

It means something like: the length of 'dimnames' [2] is not equal to the
array extent
If I do the same with a table with only 44 columns, without the
autoincremental column, it works ... but I need this last column.
Could you please help me to modify my command...

Limit forwarding to specific ports
Hello,
We are using the AllowUsers feature of sshd and would like to control
which users can ask for forwarding of which ports. E.g. when the
user is foo, allow him to tunnel connections to bar:5678 and baz:7654,
but no shell (or some dummy shell) and no other forwardings.
Is such feature planned for the future? Would you accept such patch
in the mainstream distribution?

Network Card

LAN cards so far but the second one I tried was even worse! Fedora is
recognising the cards correctly. So I am asking if anyone has a favourite
NIC that they use with Fedora that produces something like 100Mbs?
Thanks for your help!
