same system syncs of filesystems, yet changing ownerships;
Folks, I'm setting up to sync files from a staging env to a prodution env, such that the filesystems for both are served via nfs to their respective systems. Thus, I can do the rsync on the nfs server as a 'advanced cp'. rsnyc $parms filessystem filesystem2 Due to ownerships and permissions, I have to run this as root, but, I'd like the files to belong to another user and group then roots upon syncing. Is this possible without having to make it more ssh like and put the added overhaed into the transaction? responces prefered to t...

Problems with charsets and i18n
...;???????`'??" - displayed: "???????`'??" ^^^ The euro sign is created correctly in a file name. The filename will be displayed in the filesystem correctly. Then I switch to LATIN1 the ticks are OK (correctly displayed from windows client and in the Unix filessystem as well). I'm using Suse SLES8 but I've seen the issue with debian as well with locales set to de_DE.ISO8859-15 (or de_DE@euro on SLES8). Surplus: The locales seem to be OK and it's possible to create files with ticks and euro sign on the console. Any Ideas? Ralf Tomczak

CentOS 7, NFS 4, and a non ext4 fs (like zfs)
...happens. Nothing does help. This does not happen with a Centos7.1 server and a centos7.1 client and xfs (NFS4.1). Of course it works with our current client server Version: Ubuntu 12.04 / CentOS 6.5. It really does not seem to be a zfs issue - it does look more like a nfs problem with certain filessystems. I asked this already on the zfs mailing list. So is there something I can do? Is the problem known? Is there a workaround , patch or fix? I am still unsure if I missed something completely because the problem is just so serious... With kind regards Timo Ballin ____ ESET 11570 (20150504)...

two problems with scp/ssh 2.5.1p2
...approximately 10 scp processes the conncetion to the authetication agent breaks and the socket doesn't work for this session anymore. That means I have to log off and log on once again, to add my key passphrase and so on - not a very likely behaviour. 2. The authentication sockets in the /tmp-filessystem are not deleted after a ssh session. Should I delete them via a cron job? Backing Up
What is the best way to do a (server-side) backup of all mail in a user's mail? I don't think I'm doing anything weird as far as configs go; here's dovecot -n if it helps: # 1.1.4: /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf protocols: imaps listen: *, [::] ssl_cert_file: /etc/ssl/dovecot/cert.pem ssl_key_file: /etc/ssl/dovecot/key.pem login_dir: /var/run/dovecot/login login_executable:

oldschool xen kernel on sid
Hello! In an attempt to finally get a recent Xen dom0 kernel booted on this pesky amd64 system (see <http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-users/2009-10/msg00485.html> for the (short) story), I wanted to give this one one a try: Marco Nenciarini <mnencia at prato.linux.it> wrote: > I've applied latest forward ported patches from > >

access to file system through web browser
Hi. I am trying to find "something" (php prefered) that I can stick onto a Centos apache server that would allow me to browse a selected file system by employees through a web-browser "explorer like" interface. I know I can do this through WinSCP (and have done so), but my problem is I have Linux, Windows and MAC clients and my knowledge of MAC's is rather limited. I
