Agile Web Development with Rails
...n depot_development.* to ''dave''@''localhost''; I got back the following error message: Error 1133 (42000): can''t find any matching row in the user table Just for the heck of it, I ran the following query: Select host, user, password from mysql.user And sure enuf ''dave'' is not there... So, I figured that I would insert dave into mysql.user. This succeeded and when I tried to do the grant again it worked. But when I tried the command on page 57: Ruby script/generate scaffold Product admin I got the error message on the previous email. I...

Printer question: Generic postscript from windows
...nt to a file without trouble. Want I would like to do is get generic postscript output from some printer driver, and send that to a file. Then, using lpr, I could just print it as a usual linux postscript file (I assume I'll be able to remove all those OD's without trouble with sed.) I know enuf about bash and LPRng to set this up. SO, the question, which printer driver that comes with windows98 would give generic postscript output or what needs to be stripped from a specific printer postscript file to make it generic? Thanks, Joel

NT Crashes when doing large network file Xfers (was Re: NT crashes during smbtar)
Ok.. Just for the record, I STAND CORRECTED! The problem does appear to be NT.. The thing that irritated me was that nobody was interested in giving any backup data! Everyone just wanted to blindly admit that it must be NT. Ok.. Enuf bitching.. On to the better stuff... Anyway, David Mansfield and I are trying to narrow down the machine configurations where this happens.. Currently, we've found that even without a Samba server in the picture that NT's networking subsystem will crash (leaving the rest of the OS working...

Configuring Linux printer to be usable by Win98 boxes
I'm a newbie at using Samba. I've been working to allow my Win98 users access to file space on the Linux box. I'm now trying to them access to the Linux printer. The printer works fine within Linux, but when I try to print to it from the Win98 side, I get an error saying unknown device. I've configured the printer as a network printer, it is seen by Network Neighborhood, but I

Migrating Asterisk
Hello All, My asterisk installation has now been running for over two months without a hitch, and I've decided it's time to move things around a bit. It's currently installed on a 2.7GHz Celeron under RH9 installed on a 10GB "leftover" drive. Thanks to the strange marketing method called "Mail-In-Rebate", I have a fresh 160GB drive ($50), and I'm itching to

MS Access and Samba Problem
hello, I hope someone can help me with this problem because it is really unique and odd... or at least it seems to me. I can't find any references anywhere as to anyone else having the same trouble. Here is the story: I have a machine running RH 7.1 and samba 2.2.3a as our PDC for the Network. This box also serves other purposes such as Name server, dhcp server, internal web server, and

wiping of unused space on ext3
Hello, I was asked if it is possible to zero unused space in ext3 partition? Users write to the server via Samba and are far from computer geeks so teaching them to use some safedelete utility is quite impossible. Is there some way or utility to wipe out all the data from unused space? Thanks, Mindaugas

And, for the hardcore (and those without a GUI), Learning the Vi editor by Linda Lamba and Arnold Robbins, also from O'Reilly. You have to learn enuf about linux to bypass all the distribution specific configuration GUI's. They only work some of the time, and you don't want to be helplessly tied to one distro. You'll never feel comfortable with running a linux system (as opposed to just using one) if you depend on GUI's. The real...

Simple Samba
I have simple needs, as I am my only user. I am in transition between Linux and Windows. I need to get Samba running. I DO NOT need any security between machines (except to the internet.) I have certain hardware requirements that forces me to keep Windows a little longer, some day soon I will be able to afford to make the last changes. In the mean time I need to move and store my "My

ntpd under Xen Dom0 exhibits extremely high jitter/noise? runs stable/quiet under non-xen kernel.
On a selection of boxes, ntpd running in Xen Dom0 reproducibly exhibits extermely high noise/jitter. Switching back to -default, non-xen kernel ntpd runs with very low jitter/noise. Question -- how can I ''tame'' ntpd noise & jitter when running in Dom0? Is the problem a config issue, or a bug? Already reported this downstream; everybody''s "stumped".
