defaultip= in sip.conf doesnt work?
...ous brand) sip devices with static IP's.
I understand that asterisk will not accept a registration from these
devices if the host= parameter is not set to 'dynamic' in sip.conf.
I want calls to these extensions to be routable even before the device
registers. I understand that is what defaultip= is supposed to do, but
it doesn't work. I get a busy tone when dialing the extension until the
phone reregisters. Here is what the entry looks like for a Cisco7960:

host=dynamic and defaultip=xxx
Hi there,
can anyone shed some light about the use of
"host=dynamic" and
"defaultip=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"
in view of iax.conf and sip.conf? In bug 558 I learned that at lest for
iax.conf these two settings should NOT be used together. Does the same
apply for sip.conf? That would mean that both the Wiki as well as the
draft handbook need to be adjusted.
Cheers, Philipp

Asterisk and Cisco 7960

Solution to my Grandstream lockups
...luded to the fact that lack of registration might be
the cause.
I performed the following:
Increased the "Register Expiration" in the device to 60 minutes
Increased "maxexpirey" and "defaultexpirey" to 3800 seconds
Configured the device with a static IP address
Added defaultip=172.16.1.123 and host=dynamic to sip.conf
It has now been running for 48 hours without a single lockup. Here
are some of the settings that I am using:
In Grandstream:
Register Expiration: 60
SIP Registration: Yes
keep-alive interval: 20
SUBSCRIBE for MWI: No

Caller-ID name delivered in double-quotes
...;BudgeTone 1234
instead of
BudgeTone 12345
I'd like to omit the quotes, since the local telco doesn't quote the
names, and it cuts off precious characters.
I'm defining the phones this way in sip.conf:
[200]
callerid = ATA-57 1 <200>

secret = xxxx
host = dynamic
defaultip = ata-57.my.com

[201]
callerid = ATA-57 2 <201>
type = friend
secret = xxxx
host = dynamic
defaultip = ata-57.my.com
canreinvite = no
It doesn't seem specific to the ATA-186.. the BudgeTone caller-id is
also quoted.

Yes, he's really claiming to originate from any of the IP in the block
When I leave the host blank, we reject calls with a 404.
shouldn't I be able to put in a kind of "...
