Query: how to group data by months from a text file

where in the first column there is the date (DDMMYYYY), in the last three columns data.
I should divide these data by months (example:Jan07, Feb07, ..., Dec07, Jan08, ...), where the start and the end can change depending on the file.
Could somebody give me some good hints about it?

command 'service smb status' returns many process IDs
...running...
Look like the above process IDs are the sub-processes associated with the main smbd process (the main smb process is the process started by 'service smb start'). That is, if I do a 'ps -ef |grep smbd', I would see the above process IDs: like this:
root 559 19762 0 Dec07 ? 00:00:01 smbd
root 739 19762 0 Dec06 ? 00:00:01 smbd
root 867 19762 0 11:06 ? 00:00:03 smbd
root 878 19762 0 Dec06 ? 00:00:01 smbd
root 965 19762 0 11:10 ? 00:00:00 smbd
...
