Migrating to dovecot: non-empty mboxes
Hello, I migrate from cucipop to dovecot. Thus I move users' mailboxes (mbox format) to another location. Some POP3 client (for example Outlook or TheBat!) use flag 'Do not delete messages from server'. After the user's mailbox have been moved to a new location all old messages is retrieved again and user ge...

SASL using different auth database?
...authentication and POP/IMAP connections. I am converting an existing installation to Dovecot...this installation currently has quite a few users who are configured with SMTP authentication (Cyrus SASL/saslauthdb) using different passwords than are configured for their POP connections (via cucipop, /etc/passwd). If someone can think of any better way to accomplish this goal, I'm all ears. Thanks, -Dave -- Dave McGuire Port Charlotte, FL

Mailbox locking problem with iphone and POP3
...iPhone/iPod doesn't disconnect with a TCP FIN packet and it leaves the mailbox in a locked state and prevents the user's desktop from checking email. I have tried changing the file locking method and other config file options without any luck. Oddly, I am using the last version of cucipop on another server with fcntl and lockf file locking and it doesn't have this problem. If someone could clue me in I'd be very grateful. Bill

compare / contrast of linux fw and others
Hi, I was wondering how a linux box configured as a firewall stacked up against some of the commercial products like checkpoint-1 and gauntlet. Can someone direct me to a good book or online doc that compares linux to some other firewall methods? Mind you, I''m not talking about a firewall in the classical sense, ie ip forwarding turned off and used as a proxy, but the typical Linux box

mbox vs maildir debate (was re: subject concerning binc imap, even though my original message never touched on it or maildir)
...t confuse POP3 servers in general with mbox > POP3 servers. The root, the source of the evil is the storage format > mbox. <Rest of argument re mbox vs. maildir removed> I am specifcally targeting mbox POP3 servers, of which there are several implementations; Qpopper, GNU POP3 Server, Cucipop, ipop3d to name a few. I am NOT speaking to maildir, nor to Cyrus, nor to SQL-enabled products. Solely to mbox. In fact, I even said that stuff that talks to maildir, in addition to Cyrus, offered the one thing for IMAP you could not get with mbox until Dovecot came along; something resembling ro...
