Boot Loop in efi
Thanks for the hints - I have NOT CONFIG_EFI enabled - do I need this actually? I do not know which variables I need to boot... The kernel APPEND parameters are sufficient for me... And the relocatable config is set already. .. I enabled the EFI kernel config parts - no change... the console prints: Booting System... Loading linux... ok Loading iramfs.gz...ok [then reboot] My syslinux.cfg is

system unresponsive
In the past I've found that the console may have blanked (due to time) and when the system locked up/hung it won't unblank. Booting with "consoleblank=0" on the kernel command line will ensure that whatever is printed to the console (oops, panic, etc) will be there for you to see when you connect. I've had intermittent success in that type of situation with the SysRq key(s),

Disable Kernel Screen Blanker
Hey Y'all, I'm trying to turn off the kernel screen blanker that shuts off the video after about 10 minutes of inactivity at the keyboard. After extensive googling I've found two ways to *NOT* do it. In my home .xinitrc setterm -blank 0 -powersave off -powerdown 0 xset s off In /etc/rc.local /usr/bin/setterm -powersave off -blank 0 I've tried both to no effect. Of course

help with signal from monitor
I have an Alienware laptop that has Nvidia GTX 880M hardware driven by this driver. I recently purchased an ASUS_VN289H monitor. When my system gives a blanking command, the monitor returns some sort of lost signal message which causes the monitor to unblank and the time out I requested is cancelled. This is probably more of an HDMI question than specific to this hardware, but I was wondering

CentOS 7 kernel console under KVM?
Is there a way to get GRUB2 and the kernel to run a "serial" console under KVM? I'm running a Fedora 20 desktop, with libvirt-managed VMs. When I run a CentOS 6 VM, I can set both the boot loader and kernel up to use ttyS0 and get a console compatible with "virsh console". When I try the same with a CentOS 7 VM, it doesn't work. If I set it to ttyS0, I just

Boot Loop in efi
Hi all, I did my first steps on syslinux 6.03 with EFI... I prepared the disk with GPT, EFI system partition and formatted it FAT32. I added the files to EFI/BOOT including the syslinux libraries and syslinux.cfg The system starts booting, loads kernel and initrd (I see the loading output on the screen), but then the system resets and the loop restarts (infinitely). I took the same

"Hard" hangs on several Intel(-chipset) boards
Hey! I''m deploying a vanilla Xen 4.1.2 installation at a hosting provider, and I''m experiencing hard hangs (i.e., the system is unresponsive to keystrokes, network is off, I/O to disk is stopped) on several of their available server packages, all based on Intel i7 CPUs and related chipsets. The failure does not seem related to a specific Xen-version (I''ve

system unresponsive
Ok, we used to get this occasionally on cluster nodes, and we just got it on a fileserver (very bad). The system is discovered to be unresponsive: it doesn't ping, and plugging a console in, you can see that it's not dead, but there nothing at all on the screen, nor does it respond to even <ctrl-alt-del>. The only answer is to power cycle it; it comes up fine. Nothing in
