kernel: blk_cloned_rq_check_limits: over max segments limit., Device Mapper Multipath, iBFT, iSCSI COMSTAR
Hi,
WARNING: Long post ahead
I have an issue when starting multipathd. The kernel complains about "blk_cloned_rq_check_limits:
over max segments limit".
The server in question is configured for KVM hosting. It boots via iBFT to an iSCSI volume. Target
is COMSTAR and underlying that is a ZFS volume (100GB). The server also has two infiniband cards
providing four (4) more paths over SRP (SCSI RDMA Protocol). With multipathd in the initramfs and
enabled at boot, I get five paths (but also now the blk_cloned_req_check_limits error) on boot.
I/O on the boot vo...

I believe this problem is affecting performance tests others are doing with Comstar and exported zvol logical units.

DTrace provider proposal: fibre channel (fc) COMSTAR port provider probes
I have added a specification of probes for the fibre channel COMSTAR
port provider to the DTrace section of wikis.sun.com. The proposal may
be found here: http://wikis.sun.com/display/DTrace/fibre+channel+Provider
I welcome feedback regarding this proposal.

Comstar and ESXi
Hello all,
I am running an OpenSolaris server running 06/09. I installed comstar and enabled it. I have an ESXi 4.0 server connecting to Comstar via iscsi on its own switch. (There are two esxi servers), both of which do this regardless of whether one is on or off. The error I see is on esxi "Lost connectivity to storage device

Upgrading a volume from iscsitgt to COMSTAR
Hi, I have a zfs volume that''s exported via iscsi for my wife''s Mac to
use for Time Machine.
I''ve just built a new machine to house my "big" pool, and installed
build 129 on it. I''d like to start using COMSTAR for exporting the
iscsi targets, rather than the older iscsi infrastructure.
I''ve seen quite a few tutorials on how to use COMSTAR for new volumes
(and a few mentions of the shareiscsi=stmf). I''ve seen some talk about
how the old infrastructure used to use the first 64K of th...

iscsitgtd failed request to share on zpool import after upgrade from b104 to b134
Hi,
I am posting my question to both storage-discuss and zfs-discuss as I am not quite sure what is causing the messages I am receiving.
I have recently migrated my zfs volume from b104 to b134 and upgraded it from zfs version 14 to 22. It consist of two zvol''s ''vol01/zvol01'' and ''vol01/zvol02''.
During zpool import I am getting a non-zero exit code,

COMSTAR/zfs integration for faster SCSI
Hi,
Nexenta CP and NexentaStor has integrated COMSTAR with ZFS, which
provides 2-3x performance gain over userland SCSI target daemon. I;ve
blogged in more detail at
http://www.gulecha.org/2009/03/03/nexenta-iscsi-with-comstarzfs-integration/
Cheers,

DTrace provider proposal: COMSTAR iSCSI target port provider probes
I would like to request approval of the the DTrace proposal for the COMSTAR
iSCSI target port provider. I have updated the specification of the
iscsi provider at http://wikis.sun.com/display/DTrace/iscsi+Provider. Your
feedback is appreciated.

opensolaris COMSTAR io stats
Hi all,
Using "old" way of sharing volumes over iscsi in zfs (zfs set
shareiscsi=on) i can see i/o stats per iscsi volume running a command
iscsitadm show stats -I 1 volume.
However i couldn''t find something similar in new framework, comstar.
Probably i''m missing something, so if anyone has some tips please share
it :)
Thanks in advance,
Bruno

Ubuntu iSCSI install to COMSTAR zfs volume Howto
I apologize if this has been covered before. I have not seen a blow-by-blow installation guide for Ubuntu onto an iSCSI target.
The install guides I have seen assume that you can make a target visible to all, which is a problem if you want multiple iSCSI installations on the same COMSTAR target. During install Ubuntu generates three random initiators and you have to deal with them to get things working correctly.
I did this for a few reasons:
1. I have some PCs which already have another OS installed on them and want Ubuntu available without any changes to the local drive
2. I wa...

Which zfs options are replicated
Hello list,
I started playing aroud with Comstar in snv_134. In snv_116 version of ZFS, a new hidden property for the Comstar MetaData has been intoduced (stmf_sbd_lu). This makes it possible to migrate from legacy (iscsi target daemon) to Comstar without data loss, which is great.
Before this property you always lost the first 64k of your zvol...

dedicated ZIL/L2ARC
We are looking into the possibility of adding a dedicated ZIL and/or L2ARC devices to our pool. We are looking into getting 4 ? 32GB Intel X25-E SSD drives. Would this be a good solution to slow write speeds? We are currently sharing out different slices of the pool to windows servers using comstar and fibrechannel. We are currently getting around 300MB/sec performance with 70-100% disk busy.
Opensolaris snv_134
Dual 3.2GHz quadcores with hyperthreading
16GB ram
Pool_1 ? 18 raidz2 groups with 5 drives a piece and 2 hot spares
Disks are around 30% full

Migrating ZFS/data pool to new pool on the same system
...is I want to create 2xraidz2 pools instead of expanding my current 2xraidz1 pool. So I''ll create a 1xraidz2 vdev, migrate my current 2xraidz1 pool over, destroy that pool and then add it as a 1xraidz2 vdev to the new pool.
I''m running b130, sharing both with CIFS and ISCSI (not comstar), multiple decedent file systems. Other than a couple VirtualBox machines that use the pool for storage (I''ll shut them down), nothing on the server should be messing with the pool. As I understand it the old way of doing iSCSI is going away so I should plan on Comstar. I''m als...

Sharing with zfs
Hello,
Im new to this discussion lists so i hope im posting in the right place. I
started using zfs not too long ago. Im trying to figure out the ISCSI and
NFS sharing for the moment. For the ISCSI sharing at the moment im using
COMSTAR. A created the appropriate target, also a LU corespondent to the
zvol with sbdadm, then created a view attached to this. Im wondering is
there a way to actually delete a zvol ignoring the fact that it has attached
LU? I noticed the -f option does not help in this specific case. I know it
can be del...

Resizing ZFS block devices and sbdadm
sbdadm can be used with a regular ZFS file or a ZFS block device.
Is there an advatage to using a ZFS block device and exporting it to comstar via sbdadm as opposed to using a file and exporting it? (e.g. performance or manageability?)
Also- let''s say you have a 5G block device called pool/test
You can resize it by doing:
zfs set volsize=10G pool/test
However if the device was already imported into comstar then stmfadm list-lu...

Panic running a scrub
This is probably unreproducible, but I just got a panic whilst
scrubbing a simple mirrored pool on scxe snv124. Evidently
on of the disks went offline for some reason and shortly
thereafter the panic happened. I have the dump and the
/var/adm/messages containing the trace.
Is there any point in submitting a bug report?
The panic starts with:
