Network Chatter!
I've got a problem with a samba installation performed by another user so details of the installation are not known but hopefully someone out there has run into the same problem and can give me some information on a possible fix. One of our Samba servers seem to be doing a significant amount of crosstalk with a couple of our other Windows NT servers, I haven't been able to pinpoint what

syslog console log not logging SCSI problems
One of our FreeBSD boxes has a SCSI controller and disk, which showed problems earlier this week. There was a lot of of chatter from the SCSI driver in /var/log/messages and to the console. However, the console is unattended and we only discovered the problem subsequently because /var/log/console.log didn't show any of the chatter. console.log is otherwise working, and very helpful (e.g. it

Quiet upsmon /var/log/messages chatter
Hi Larry, [please use reply-all to include the list - the NUT lists do not add a reply-to header.] On Oct 21, 2015, at 3:23 PM, Larry Baker <baker at usgs.gov> wrote: > > I use the NUT RPM package for CentOS 6.7, which is version 2.6.5-2. Message light on 7960 or in this case no message light
I have just finished setting up a new asterisk system which is basically the same as our first system. We are using 7960 phones and I used the phone config files the first installation with appropriate changes. The problem is that on the new system I get no message lights, I can't figure this out. One thing I do notice is that when I monitor the sip debug on the second system the sip

Quiet upsmon /var/log/messages chatter
I use the NUT RPM package for CentOS 6.7, which is version 2.6.5-2. I am testing implementation of NUT features with APC and Tripp-Lite USB UPS interfaces. Things are going reasonably well. However, I'm seeing many more messages than I would like in /var/log/messages when I boot the system without the UPS connected (testing a failure scenario). I have configured NOCOMMWARNTIME 3600, which

Ugly patch to openssh-1.2pre15
Hi, I am behind a firewall which does not permit connections to port 22, so I run my ssh server on port 23. :-) Unfortunately, the stupid firewall prints a few lines of junk when you make a connection to port 23 before actually starting the connection. This confuses ssh. Attached is an (ugly) patch against openssh-1.2pre15 which makes it ignore a configurable number of lines while looking for

Lots of harddrive chatter on after booting with btrfs on root (slow boot)
Hi, I''ve been using btrfs for my root partition for about a month on archlinux and recently Ive started using the i3 window manager and starting X manually and I now boot to run level 3 (multi-user.target for systemd) and Ive noticed that booting archlinux on a btrfs root, there is a lot off hdd chatter after the login prompts are displayed, which doesnt happen with ext4 on root, so I

mysterious rounding digits output
Well pointed out, Jim! It is infortunate that the documentation for options(digits=...) does not mention that these are *significant digits* and not *decimal places* (which is what Joshua seems to want): "?digits?: controls the number of digits to print when printing numeric values." On the face of it, printing the value "0,517" of 'ccc' looks like printing 4

New list ?
Hi, Taking this to a new thread. Thoughts on getting a new list started up ? Should it be centos-sysadmin or centos-infra ? Are we going to then restrict it to admin/infra related chatter ? in which case, does the eyeball density on this list reduce for that sort of content ? How about the politics and news stuff that gets posted to this list. And how would those things be addressed with

Zone Paging
I see a lot of chatter in the archives about intercom and paging, but has anyone addressed zone paging? Each of the 50 telephones in a large clinic would be members of one or more paging zones. Someone could then page Dr. X in zone #1. Would this be possible with analog phones? SIP? Thanks, Mike

Centos and CVE-2017-1000117
hi centos community, as many of you probably have been following along, a few days ago CVE 2017-1000117 <https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1480386> was identified and redhat was prompt to release patches to fedora 25/26. I haven't seen any chatter thus far from CentOS, so was wondering if anyone knew the status of the patches landing in CentOS, and more specifically, for

MFC ZFS: when?
In several of the recent ZFS posts, multiple people have asked when this will be MFC'd to 7.x. This query has been studiously ignored as other chatter about whatever ZFS issue is discussed. So in a post with no other bug report or discussion content to distract us, when is it intended that ZFS be MFC'd to 7.x?

dovecot/FreeBSD and Android IMAP clients
Dear Colleagues, I have a fairly vanilla setup of dovecot on FreeBSD, serving IMAP and POP3. Thunderbird/IMAP works fine, and so does mutt/IMAP. However, Android clients (Gmail/IMAP and K-9 Mail) have problems accessing folders other than the INBOX. They either show them empty with no mails (K-9) or just wait forever to view the contents (Gmail app). Do I need to set up some workarounds or

Does KB3161949 (netbios disabled on windows) affect samba4 as well?
Hi, Sorry am new, so dont know if this is the right place to ask this question. Microsoft recently released a security update( KB 3161949) that disables netbios connection outside the local subnet. I have been using Samba 3.0.28 and since the name resolution doesn't happen after installing the patch, I cant connect to my shares anymore. If someone is using Linux samba4, can you please let

XCP 1.0 Network Interfaces missing on pool slave after relocation
I relocated my hosts to a new data center. The pool master booted fine and I changed the management IP and VMs started fine as well. The slave host started, but it doesn''t show to have any NICs. If I exit to a command line I can list them with ifconfig, but none show up in xsconsole. I can also see chatter on the NIC LEDs and the switch ports. I didn''t find any helpful old posts
