Changing file permissions from the command line
Hi, I run Samba 2.2.3a (Solaris 7) in domain authentication mode in a Windows 2000 domain. I would like to be able to script file permissions changes from the Windows side using a command line utility, e.g. cacls, however I have only been successful in changing the UNIX world permisssions, not owner and group. A summary follows. Has anyone come across a solution for this? Thanks, Fintan --- Summary --- UNIX: TEST:uw0425$ ls -ald test UNIX: drwx------ 2 oreillyf techenv 512 Sep 23 12:07 test WIN...

"password server" not working: 2.2.4
I've been having some trouble getting ACLs to work under my Samba 2.2.4 client (talking to my 2.2.4 "PDC"). Finally, I checked the log and realized that it wasn't able to map SIDs to UID/GIDs. Further checking, and I realized that the client never made the request to the server. Here's some output from smbpasswd: smbpasswd -D 4 fred Initialising global parameters

Transferring medium-size NT fileserver to Samba; HOWTO...?
...f a loss as to formulating a plan of action. I presume that my situation is not unusual, so I am writing to this list in the hopes that others might benefit, too. My question is general: how should I proceed, and where might I look for info specific to this process? I've found the NT utility cacls.exe which can be used to display 'owner/permissions' from the ACL for a given file. My naive understanding of the job is as follows. I must ask your indulgence, I know that 'naive' in this case will mean that I'm missing important steps, and that I have misunderstandings with...

ACLs and Windows 2000 look alike (inheritance of permissions)
...ba by default copy all the ACLs when A folder is created? It does it if you manually check the "Allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object" box on the Security page of properties. If there is no way to do this in Samba (I'm using 2.2.5), can it be done with cacls.exe or some other item? Thank you, Tom

Samba and Windows ACL Issue
...ive not done, doing wrong etc so anyone that could shed some light on it that would be great. Basically the windows box handles all user account processing and during creating a script for all this it will attempt to change the permissions on the HOME directory to the user in question (i.e C:\>cacls Z:\Students\2005\sb05 /G sb05:F /T /E) But I always get Access is denied. Even tho its currently owned by administrator. Trying the "manual" way, and the ways listed in the offical samba howto guide produces similar results. The only way I can change the owner is to go into linux and...

samba NT ACL support problem?
...e combed through deja, google, and all of the samba mailing list archives but found nothing. I've tested and recieve the same results on both samba-2.2.1 (linux) and samba-2.2.2 (solaris), while the file is stored correctly on the local NTFS partition and an NT4 server hosted share. FYI the cacls output of the samba hosted file is: Content.IE5\index.dat <Account Domain not found>(special access:) WRITE_OWNER <Account Domain not found>(special access:) READ_CONTROL SYNCHRONIZE FILE_GENERIC_READ...

sysvol files - 'The data area passed to a system call is too small'
Hi, I have been having problems with GPOs, sysvol, etc. for some time now, and have found a workaround but I wondered if any of the samba devs were interested in investigating this. Basically, the problems manifest themselves as access errors, along the lines of unable to read files, error messages such as 'The data area passed to a system call is too small' and so on - which means that

Using Access Control Lists with SMB2/SMB3 Mounts on Linux Clients
ACL management can be done for SMB2/SMB3 ACLs with two common tools depending on your preference. smbcacls (somewhat similar to using cacls.exe or icacls.exe in Windows but specifying the UNC name rather than a local path name). smbcacls sets up and tears down a network connection each time it is run and uses Samba user space code. or setcifsacl/getcifsacl (which calls cifs.ko to access the ACL from...

PCounter and Samba
...h (v. 2.1.0-prealpha with NT domain controller support). Then I had a new standalond server connected to the Samba server properly. I could administer the domain via the standalone server as much as Samba could support. I could set file/dir permissions on the NT box by using the GUI tool as well as cacls.exe . "Samba is now approaching NT", I thought. I then installed PCounter on the standalone NT box. I could use a new workstation to logged onto the Samba domain and send print jobs to all printers connected and controlled by the standalone server. But one thing I cound't do was usin...

I would guess you would need "yourdomain\youruser:(OI)(CI)F". Note that your personal R library is not delete...

Samba PDC and big files
Hello, I'm trying to setup a PDC with Samba, but I have the known problem of the roaming profiles: big files. I think it's difficult to guarantee that a inexperienced user will copy is downloaded files, documents, or whatever, to a H:\ share instead of is handy desktop. Other problem is the files of Outlook or Thunderbird that can get big. The goal is to avoid email configuration each
