Hello everyone,
I know that many people know not to use .local, but in the last weeks
we had several People having problems using .local.
So to all peopel starting implementing Samba 4 AD, read this:
http://miketelahun.wordpress.com/2012/09/16/stop-using-local-as-the-top-level-domain-for-your-lan/
So stop using .local as TLD. Maybe there should be a

help, please, troubleshooting winbind testing during setup of Samba 4 AD member server
Hello, all!
Well, third time is *not* the charm for me. (I've been through the
process 3 times with 3 different DCs).
I am trying to set up a member server, using Samba 4.1.14, and washing
out when getting to the winbind testing. I've tried ignoring the failure
and pressing on, but that didn't get anywhere.
In this instance, I have a freshly-installed, configured and functioning

I tried the following global parameters in smb.conf:
bind interfaces only = yes
interfaces = lo eth0
And like magic it worked! Samba is now bind to127.0.0.1?(lo) and eth0 and net rpc rights grant works. Try this also on a member server.
Give it a try!

clarification regarding RFC2307 winbind backend, please
Can someone please clarify the scope of the remarks in this wiki page:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/RFC2307_backend
specifically, can you confirm that the following applies only to a
Member Server, (not the DC)?

etc.
Now you should be able to enumerate the users and groups of the AD
Domain from the member server with the tests shown in Section 9 of the
wiki (id DomainUser, getent passwd, etc.). At least I was finally able
to do so.
Cheers!

It's definitely a problem with backend ad. I don't know what, but with ad backend I also cannot list rpc rights on the server because it cannot find the user. With rid: no problem.
Bug?

re-using a member server?
OK - I must be close, but I'm lost...
I have a sernet member server that I built and joined to a test
win2008R2 AD Domain Controller ("the AD-DC").
(Version 4.1.14-SerNet-Debian-9.wheezy)
I used Louis van Belle's setup script (manually executed, just 'cause
I'm that kind of guy).

I have been reviewing Louis' script

echo "==========Disable Printing ==============================="

I appear to be about 12 hours behind Tim, except that I am using Debian

win2k usrmgr.exe returns "remote procedure call failed"
WHAT I HAVE:
I've inherited a production debian system. uname reveals kernel
2.4.18-bf2.4. I am now running samba 3.0.14a with a completely "stock
from source" install (as part of my troubleshooting activities). The
machine acts as a PDC for win2k clients. It uses smbpasswd for the
password back end. There are approx 20 users. It also serves dhcp, ntp,
mysql and apache.
