Errors in Variables
I hope somebody can help. A student of mine is doing a study on Measurement Error models (errors-in-variables, total least squares, etc.). I have an old reference to a "multi archive" that contains leiv3: Programs for best line fitting with errors in both coordinates. (The date is October 1989, by B.D. Ripley et al.) I have done a search for something similar in R withour success. Has

uplink with multiple lines
I''ve been trying - without success - to aggregate the bandwidth of 3 DSL modems using the instructions in the HowTo (sections 4.2.1 and 4.2.2). I _believe_ I''m following the instructions to the letter, but when I add the last command (the "ip route" with "nexthop") then nothing goes out through the modems. Each modem works when I add a single default gateway

I need arguments pro-S-PLUS and against SAS for a meeting I will have next week. S-Plus is (90 - 99)% compatible with R, so using S-Plus will make things much easier for everyone. But I can't use this argument. What other arguments could I use? Alberto Monteiro

Browse List Question - please help!
...path = /tmp guest ok = yes browseable = yes [public] path = /home/pcguest public = yes only guest = yes writable = no printable = no Politics: Getting this working under samba would be a Good Thing. Right now we have NT in our environment but with no real structure. NT bigots want to begin building an NT4 Domain structure. Netware bigots want to put NDS for NT on every NT box. I'd like to take care of our problems by using samba. Really our only problems are name resolution and browsing lists. If I could provide a way for remote users (on different subnets) to ge...

...ss the mark, or make mistakes, I'd first point out to them, not assume ill intent. This has been my personal experience and I have no reason to change behaviour. But the code of conduct is a defence against two evils: the rare bigot and the rare SJW. By having the code, we can more easily curb bigots but also appease SJW to not poison our community. For what it's worth, so far, I have found the LLVM community fair and just on how it treats its citizens, as I have myself fell foul from ill behaviour of other members and that has been solved decently and properly. > The last drop was ll...

Fits & splines
Hello all, Do you know of convenient functions that can do: 1) a fit "f(x)" of data points with a spline, and *then* 2) weighted fits of other data points ** with a model of the form a*f(x-x0)?**? [i.e., the goal is to find a and x0, ideally with their covariance matrix], and 3) if possible, the same as (2) above, but with the same model *convoluted with a gaussian* (whose

Stopping to say "thanx" ...
I'll try to keep this short (yeah right! ;-). Being primarily a user, I find myself bitching, analyzing and complaining about things I don't stop to understand half the time. I've done more than may share in this regard the various filesystems over the years. I've done a few LUG and tradeshow presentations over the past year, trying to inform different peer admins what Linux JFS

rsync {options} -- {arguments}
FreeBSD 6.1-RELEASE rsync-2.6.9 from the man page: rsync uses the GNU long options package. rsync seems to ignore the [gnu] special "--" option, used to delimit options from arguments. i'd like to have this functionality... any suggestions? thanks... -- ...atom ________________________ http://atom.smasher.org/ 762A 3B98 A3C3 96C9 C6B7 582A B88D 52E4 D9F5 7808

Slow writes continued
I posted a while back about getting very slow writes. People suggested modifying (increasing) SO_SNDBUF and SO_RCVBUF and this actually helps enormously. However, there is obviously something still not right. Writes are still about 1/2 the speed of reads. This only seems to affect Win95 clients (NT machines are fine). Doing a write of a 20mb file to the server generates the following message:

Parallel setups
During converting a client from one machine to another, I need to run Samba on both versions. The snag is, for various reasons I need to keep the same hostname on both machines (they refer to each other by different names. and do not use DNS). If it helps, it's Solaris 2.5.1 & 2.6, and the Samba is 1.9.17p4. How can I make them both visible, uniquely, whilst retaining the same host name

Win2k & 2.0.7
When I try to join the Win2k machine to a domain, I get the following message: The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "WIN2K": The procedure number is out of range. This is a Win2k PC attempting to join to AIX 4.3.2 running samba 2.0.7. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bill -- /------------------------------------------------------\

Samba as Wins Server and Domain Controller
I currently have had Samba running on our network as a file and print server and have had no major problems at all. I know Samba is capable of becoming a Wins Server and a Domain controller. I was looking into this, and was wondering who else is running Samba in this configuration. If you are running it in this configuration: How do you like it: ( does it run well, what are the pros and cons of

He sent a multipart message, with a "text/html" section and an equivalent message in "text/plain". Other than a little extra bandwidth, I don't think anyone minds multipart messages.

ANNOUNCE: alternate mail archive site
I really dislike ListProcessor, the mailing list software samba.org uses. There's a lot of reasons, most having to do with header rewriting, but that's not the point of this message. One thing I don't like is its list archive feature. The archives are hard to navigate, and the threading is atrocious. I'm accustomed to MHonArc-generated archives, like they use at debian.org and

Samba PDC _and_ Samba member?
I am trying to get a Samba PDC and a Samba member server to work together. I can't. The documentation describes how to make a Samba PDC work. I got that working. My Win2k desktop can join just fine. The documentation describes how to make a Samba server be a member of an NT domain. It does not tell how to make Samba trust Samba. That's my problem. I have the PDC setup to

Effect.SlideDown/Up() and HTML issues
Hello, I''m hoping this is the right place to ask these kind of questions. If not, please excuse me. Anyway, the problem I''m having is that I have a HTML table showing some tabular data and I want to use Effect.SlideDown/Up to allow the user to interactively show "details" for each item (<tr><td> etc) in that list. I''ll do some pseudo-code for
