Appropriate measure of correlation with 'zero-inflated' data?
I have reached the correlation section in a course that I teach and I
hit upon the idea of using data from the weekly Bowl Championship
Series (BCS) rankings to illustrate different techniques for assessing
correlation.
For those not familiar with college football in the United States
(where "football" refers to American football, not what is called
soccer here and football in most other countries) I should explain
that many, many u...

* I will have a broadcast server (bcs).
* this bcs will have various soundcards (n +1 -> N speakers + 1 final mix)
* the output of each soundcard is put into the analog mixer.
* the remote clients will send the signal to the bcs (through liveice?) .

Data source for American college football rankings?
An interesting, and topical, example of multivariate data for
classroom illustrations are the American college football rankings.
Starting at the end of October (or "week 8", the 8th week of the
football season) a set of rankings called the BCS (Bowl Championship
Series) will be published. This is a composite ranking based on two
subjective polls, the Harris and USA Today polls, and a trimmed mean
of 6 objective scores, the so-called computer rankings. The Harris
and USA Today polls are currently available along with several others

I collaborate with an spanish NGO and we're planning to set up an Internet radio station. I would like to base our project on linux and Icecast / liveice (right?) but I don't understand some terms of "radio" practices. I need your experience&help;
the project should cover the following scenarios:

Why should I answer a Newbie question, there thick!
It would be nice just for once to actually use a mailing list with people
who are a little more sympathetic to the fact that your not a rocket
scentist or molecular biologist and that you might actually need some
help,
without being made to feel like your completely useless and should be
cleaning toilets for a living.
"Ahhh man not another stupid newbie question! are these people completely

Uniden UIP200 configuration -- manual MIA?

and was very excited to set it up... until I came to the realization
that there were no docs with it whatsoever. There was, however, a sheet
of paper with the stock warnings (don't use the phone in the tub, etc.),
AND a URL -- for documentation. Score!
Well, no.
The URL it gave me, bcs.uniden.com, does indeed have docs: for the
user. Nothing about the administrator, how TFTP needs to be configured,
how to "unlock config" (an LCD panel option), etc. As far as I can
tell, all of this is simply missing. Now, maybe I'm just dumb, but I'm
thinking that there...

poLCA and conditional dependence
Dear all,
I'm an Sri Lankan undergraduate student. I'm also a total newbie to R.
My aim is to use the poLCA package to do a latent class analysis.
I found the documentation very helpful, but need to make a small
clarification that has stumped me awhile.
In my work, I need to make provision for conditional dependence. I'm told
that poLCA lets you do that. Unfortunately, I

zlab="BCS")
However, when run R states:

Dear useRs
We have a data-set (comma delimited) with 12Millions of rows, and 5
columns (in fact many more, but we need only 4 of them): id, factor 'a'

run R on suse-linux 9.1 with 2GB RAM, (and a 3.5GB swap file).
on average we have 30 obs. per id. We want to aggregate (eg. sum of the

[RFC] AAP Backend
...on.
AAP was designed in early 2015 and aims to advance compiler development
for small deeply embedded Harvard architectures, which are widely used
commercially. AAP is freely available as an open source softcore for use
in FPGA designs.
AAP has wide exposure: at ORCONF16 at CERN, at FOSDEM and at BCS and
OSHUG meetings. It is also of commercial interest, because of the
potential benefits of providing upstream LLVM support for features found
in small embedded processors.
Currently there is a complete Clang and LLVM toolchain including gdb, ld
and binutils, as well as two simulator implementatio...
