MS Office 2010 Home - activation and licenses
Hi WineUsers, I have been very pleased with experiencing how well office 2007 works on wine (1.3.35-37 clean prefix) and I can see that there is also good progress on 2010. I have been considering buying the home license for 2010 so that I can try it out. However, I know that MS have some licensing scheme where you get to install it on 3 computers and that's it. Does anyone here have some

seek advise for slice & dice a table
hi, im having a table which holds a lot of information. i would like to slice & dice in a BI-manner the table. u guys have any suggestions? table looks a bit like this: user app [appa, appb, appc] action [actiona, actionb, actionc] timestamps ... so it would be cool to sort, drill in&up based on the various dimensions. im not asking for a full bi-solution, but maybe the one or the other faced a similar situation. thx -- You received this message because you are subscribed to...

Performance Samba 2.0.6 / FreeBSD 3.4 vs NT and NetWare
I'm getting samba setup, and it seems to be working. I have PDC/BackupPDC issues to resolve, and want to change things so the NT PDC authenticates users instead of setting them up using smbpasswd. Right now, I can access the samba box from Win98 and WinNT workstation with "manually setup" smbpasswd's. I have been testing performance and am a little disappointed, I hoped samba

Windows share "bridge"
...but: Data transfer without bridge: ~68Mbit/s Data transfer with bridge: ~23Mbit/s Data transfer with bridge not using samba but ftp to serve the share: ~38Mbit/s Data transfer was unchanged when applying some samba tweaks suggested by this book: http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/samba/chapter/book/appb.pdf. Though I guess it's somewhat outdated. The NICs are 100Mbit cards. I definetly want to get that faster. The Gentoo Samba server machine (called it wormhole, hihi) is some neat old p2@400Mhz with 64MB of SDRam. More memory doesn't help a bit and overclocking the CPU (tried some +50...

Samba writing speed with big blocks
Hello ! I'm having serious problems with Samba's writing speed (both 2.0.5a from RH 6.1 and 2.0.6 compiled from sources) on a 100Mbit network. If I write a file with block size 65487 or less, then the writing speed is about 7-8 MB/s - a very nice value, my bow to the Samba team :) If I change the block size to 65488 or more, then the writing speed falls down to 3 MB/s, which is not what

single stream performance issue, Win2K, WinXP, Samba 3.2.5-4lenny7 (Debian Lenny)
Hello fellow Samba users and devs. This is my first post. I've searched documentation far and wide for Windows, Linux, and Samba, and have not been able to shed any light on this issue. I can't get more than 8MB/s during a single file copy stream out of my Samba server over my 100FDX switched network either from Win2K or WinXP (I don't have a *nix client to test with). The network

Comments request to refute arguments about Samba...
I can't answer any of this, but the following was taken from a thread on the "Novell Technology Transfer Partners List <NOVTTP@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU>" and passed over to me by my boss... Any comments/refutations/etc most definitely accepted... Please note that *I'm* the Senior Unix Systems Administrator at the University I work at, and have been moving us towards Samba since I

SeBackupPrivilege
We're using Samba 3.0.21a-1 on a CentOS 4.2 server (kernel 2.6.9-22.0.2.ELsmp); everything works more or less fine, it's functioning as the PDC with an OpenLDAP back end (setup essentially straight from the Idealx.org playbook), etc. We're trying to mount Windows shares to back them up, and getting "permission denied" errors when trying to read certain files from those
