M/S encoding ?
...louder signal (5kHz) might mask the quieter one ( 5.2 kHz ) in both M and S channels ( provided there is a bitrate pressure ), thereby eliminating the 5.2 kHz signal. In short : M/S mode might consider parts of music masked, that would not be masked in regular stereo mode. This seems wrong to me, alltough is is possible that the brain would do this masking itself. So what is the comment of experts here ? Forgive me if I posted non-sense :-) David Balazic --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/

Problems with shares after upgrading to 3.4.0
I'm running a lot of samba-servers (3.3.x) as AD members (security = ADS) here and they are working fine. For tests I updated one of my server to 3.4.0 and now have problems with lots of users accessing the shares.. Alltough there are still some users that always can access any share on the updated server, most of them cannot. Running samba with log level 3 gives the following logs (only part shown) Almost at the beginning of connection there is a difference at the following call: working client: [2009/07/07 10:35:43...

communication between icecast and sources
I was actually thinking of implementing something like this for ices, Such that the user could dynamically request songs to be streamed to the server. Makes it easier for wrapper applications (such as jukeboxes) to control the stream rather than relying on files and SIG's for RPC. Is there anything like this being planned? question on downsampling
Hi, Maybe a bit off topic for this list, bt anyway. I have received several feature requests for DarkIce to support downsampling of the audio input before passing it to lame or ogg vorbis. For example the audio read from the soundcard would be 44.1kHz, and lame would get it at 22.05kHz. I figure two ways of doing this: 1. For lame, one can specify the input and the desired mp3 sampling rate,

Problem with ssh limit and scp stalling
Hi, I have a very simple server setup, using shorewall as my firewall. I have a line like this at the top of my rules file to allow ssh connections, but limited to 3 connection per minute with a burst rate of 3: SSH/ACCEPT net $FW - - - - 3/min:3 - Now when I have that in place, and from a remote machine run scp server:/some/file ., I find
