Migrations & Postgres: Change column not functional?
I''ve got a MySQL app, which I''m moving to a new server which is using
Postgres. This seems like the perfect application of migrations. (Note: I
don''t mean "using migrations to switch from MySQL to Postgres" so much as
"Hey, I''ve _been_ using migrations all along, and this is where I cash in".)
There were some odd bugs when working with the site, and I traced it to two
columns which had the "wrong" data types. Actually, they had *earlier* data
types: Types that had changed in earlier migrations.

grub irritants
It appears that if I do anything to grub.conf, say, take out the rhgb
quiet, after every succeding kernel update, I have to manually edit
grub.conf, because the kernel update - maybe the post install script? -
will set the default to be the previous kernel. Has anyone got a solution
to this, so that a kernel update will give the new kernel as the default?

I see in the new Agile Rails 2nd edition that components are going out
of style?
Is this so? has anybody abandoned the idea of components for helpers?
