one ZIL SLOG per zpool?
I have three zpools on a server and want to add a mirrored pair of ssd''s for the ZIL. Can the same pair of SSDs be used for the ZIL of all three zpools or is it one ZIL SLOG device per zpool? -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

OCZ Vertex 2 Pro performance numbers
Now the test for the Vertex 2 Pro. This was fun. For more explanation please see the thread "Crucial RealSSD C300 and cache flush?" This time I made sure the device is attached via 3GBit SATA. This is also only a short test. I''ll retest after some weeks of usage. cache enabled, 32 buffers, 64k blocks linear write, random data: 96 MB/s linear read, random data: 206 MB/s linear write, zero data: 234 MB/s linear read, zero data: 255 MB/s random write, random data: 84 MB/s ra...

How to tune rsync to speed up?
Hi there, we're facing some flapping traffic when rsyncing atm 70T from one server to an DELL Isilon. Both systems are connected with 10G Fiber (not Channel). So we started with one simple "rsync -a /src /dest" to the DELL by using NFS3. So it runs with around 3Gbit for some seconds, than it were 30Kbit for also some seconds and again "some" Gig were transferred and than again it decreases to 50kbit. This was all the time for about 24 hours. Than (this is actually not my doing, it's one of our researchers) i send him a little pythonscript to use...

[OFFTOPIC] integrated LSI 3008 :: number of hdd support
...ice though it is not usually a problem with a 2-3x over-subscription of lanes with HDD's. You will see it though if you are really pushing allot of SSD's. For example I have 32 1 and 2 TB SATA disks in 2 separate external enclosures. The enclosures are daisy chained to a single 4 lane 3Gbit port so I have a theoretical max of 12Gbit to use. What I do to test is simply use dd to write zeros simultaneously to each one of the drives. DD is able to write at the full speed of the drives until I get enough of them going that the total throughput hits around 900MB/s. So there is some...

Help setting up multipathing on CentOS 4.7 to an Equallogic iSCSI target
I'm trying to test out an Equallogic PS5500 with a server running CentOS 4.7 I can create a volume and mount it fine using the standard iscsi-initiator-utils tools. The Equallogic box has 3 Gigabit interfaces and I would like to try to set up things so I can read/write from/to the volume using multiple NICs on the server i.e. get 200+ Mbyte/s access to the volume - I've had some

JBOD recommendation for ZFS usage
Dear all Sorry if it''s kind of off-topic for the list but after talking to lots of vendors I''m running out of ideas... We are looking for JBOD systems which (1) hold 20+ 3.3" SATA drives (2) are rack mountable (3) have all the nive hot-swap stuff (4) allow 2 hosts to connect via SAS (4+ lines per host) and see all available drives as disks, no RAID volume. In a

ZFS for Linux?
Hello, A college friend of mine is using Debian Linux on his desktop, and wondered if he could tap into ZFS goodness without adding another server in his small quiet apartment or changing the desktop OS. According to his research, there are some kernel modules for Debian which implement ZFS, or a FUSE variant. Can anyone comment how stable and functional these are? Performance is a

Dedicated server running ESXi with no RAID card, ZFS for storage?
Morning all... I have a Dedicated server in a data center in Germany, and it has 2 3TB drives, but only software RAID. I have got them to install VMWare ESXi and so far everything is going ok... I have the 2 drives as standard data stores... But i am paranoid... So, i installed Nexenta as a VM, gave it a small disk to boot off and 2 1Tb disks on separate physical drives... I have created a

Recommendation for home NAS external JBOD
Hi, my oi151 based home NAS is approaching a frightening "drive space" level. Right now the data volume is a 4*1TB Raid-Z1, 3 1/2" local disks individually connected to an 8 port LSI 6Gbit controller. So I can either exchange the disks one by one with autoexpand, use 2-4 TB disks and be happy. This was my original approach. However I am totally unclear about the 512b vs 4Kb issue.
