rsync *Still* Copying All Files?
...s are being copied over. Here's the command line I'm issuing: C:\temp>rsync --verbose --progress --stats --compress --recursive --times 10.8.1.57::nmap /cygdrive/c/temp/nmap I'm using a source distribution of nmap just to test with. When I started noticing this error, I placed a 37MB file inside the rsyncable nmap area to emphasize the amount of time spent syncing. The progress switch allows me to watch a realtime progress counter as the files are processed. It takes several minutes for that 37MB file to come over, and the stats at the end hold up the theory that ~40MB of dat...

Cannot build Clang/LLVM on Windows with LLVM_BUILD_LLVM_DYLIB

R/C++/memory leaks
...ee R's total virtual memory use (VIRT in `top`): 1) Load library and data [178MB] (if I run gc(), then [122MB]) 2) Just before .C [223MB] 3) Just before freeing memory [325MB] 4) Just after freeing memory [288MB] 5) After running gc() [230MB] So although the freeMemory function works (frees 37MB), R ends up using 100MB more after the function call than before it. ls() only returns the data object so no new objects have been added to the workspace. Do any of you have any idea what could be eating this memory? Many thanks, Ernest PS: it is not practical to use R_alloc et al because...

Unable to remove GPLPV drivers without breaking win2k3 domU
I have a Win2K3 domU (and thankfully an image backup of the LVM volume that holds its system disk) I previously installed GPLPV v0.8.9 drivers, the domU boots OK with or without the /GPLPV switch in boot.ini, however with the /GPLPV switch it tries and fails to use the Xen network driver, and so the machine is network-less, so for the past few months I''ve left it using pure HVM

Cannot build Clang/LLVM on Windows with LLVM_BUILD_LLVM_DYLIB
I am trying to build Clang/LLVM with -DLLVM_BUILD_LLVM_DYLIB=ON and -DLLVM_LINK_LLVM_DYLIB=ON to reduce the size of toolchain. I am getting LINK error 1181 about `lib\LLVM.lib` not found. After investigating, `lib\LLVM.lib` is supposed to be produced along with `bin\LLVM.dll`. `bin\LLVM.dll` is indeed produced, but it does not contain any exported symbols (10KB only) because LLVM does not use

large file storing in postgres sucks?
Hi, I''m not sure if this is a postgres issue or not, but I''m using Postgres 8.1. I have (in my functional tests) the following code: upload = fixture_file_upload(''/files/podcast.mp3'', ''audio/mpeg'') post :create, :product => valid_product, :media => { :image => upload } And then in the controller: blob = Blob.create :data

Icecast 2.4 beta4 memory leak
Hello! I started the IceCast using Valgrind, just like you suggested before. It started with ~37MB of residend memory used by the Valgrind process and then started to grow steadily after the IceS stream start. I waited till the memory used by Valgrind reached ~79MB and stopped the IceS stream. The Valgrind memory usage also stopped to grow. I waited for several hours and checked the memory aga...

Performance Question...
...Samba 2.0.5a is configured with 4MB shared mem, TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY SO_SNDBUF=131072 SO_RCVBUF=131072. We've moved 200 of the 600 PCs from Novell/Samba combo to all Samba shares. Does anyone see a problem with moving the remaining 400? At ramp-up (beginning of class switch) we moved a 37MB file from one Samba share to another in about 65sec. Also a 5MB file from C: to a Samba share in 5sec. Bill -- /------------------------------------------------------\ | | | William E. Jojo, Jr. | |...

Binaries of R.12.0 for Windows: where are RGUI and Rterm ?
Dear all, I've just downloaded R.12.0 from CRAN (http://cran.r-project.org/bin/windows/base/release.htm). I am unable to find RGUI.exe as well as Rterm.exe. Conversely to what is explained in readme.R.2.12.0: There are two versions of the R executable in R-2.12.0\bin\i386 (32-bit) or R-2.12.0\bin\x64 (64-bit). I can't find directories i386 or x64 in R-2.12.0\bin -- Renaud Lancelot EDEN

Samba enterprise performance?
Hi list, Due to possible budget cuts, I am looking at finding alternatives to the Netapp filers we currently have. Obviously, one of the key drivers is the performance required for our specific application. On https://www.fotoloog.org/fs.png you can see the load on our main filer. The key question I have is: looking at that graph, do you think it is worthwhile looking into Samba further as a

[XCP] primary/primary DRBD 8.4.0-1 LVM-based shared SR (xcp 1.1) preformance tuning
Hi all, we have followed the very good HOWTO by http://wherethebitsroam.com/blogs/jeffw/drbd-xcp-05 and set up DRBD on XCP 1.1 in primary/primary mode. It works fine, but I am wondering how to squeeze more performance out of the system (we currently use a crossover GB Ethernet connection). When writing a 1 GB file on a guest I get write performance of about 5MB/s (idle). We have disabled all

tuned-adm fixed Windows VM disk write performance on CentOS 6
On a 32bit Windows 2008 Server guest VM on a CentOS 5 host, iometer reported a disk write speed of 37MB/s The same VM on a CentOS 6 host reported 0.3MB/s. i.e. The VM was unusable. Write performance in a CentOS 6 VM was also much worse, but it was usable. (See http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-virt/2012-August/002961.html) With iometer still running in the guest, I installed tuned on the C...

Increased memory requirements on 1.2
I just recently upgraded a rails app of mine to run on edge (and the 1-2-pre-release branch) and I noticed my fcgis required roughly 6-8MBs more memory after just a couple requests. For example, each fcgi on edge would start around 40MB and rise to ~46MBs after a couple requests. I downgraded my app back to 1.1.6 and each fcgi would start at around 33MBs and rise to ~38MB. As a result of the

qemu VS tapdisk2 VS blkback benchmarks
Hi all, as promised I run some simple benchmarks using tapdisk2 and the new qemu as disk backends. If you are in a hurry skip to the last section to see the test results. SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS --------------------- In order to reproduce these results you need to use the new qemu with linux aio and O_DIRECT as disk backend: - apply the libxl patches that Anthony sent to the list a little while

Using zip format for help pages, examples, etc.
At the Vienna meeting we discussed the problems encountered on some operating systems when storing many small files in a directory. In particular the directories $RHOME/library/base/help/, $RHOME/library/base/R-ex/, and $RHOME/library/base/data/ can take up an enormous amount of storage on the Macintosh or on Windows systems because the minimum amount of storage per distinct file is quite large.

Memory usage issues
Hello all, I''m new to Mongrel and am very impressed with what I see so far. This thing beats FastCGI hands down, and is even simpler to use than SCGI. Great job Zed! Thanks for all the hard work. I am a bit surprised at the memory usage patterns though. I''m not sure if I''m doing something wrong (most likely I am), or if this is a problem with the app I''m

Extremely slow zpool scrub performance
Running a zpool scrub on our production pool is showing a scrub rate of about 400K/s. (When this pool was first set up we saw rates in the MB/s range during a scrub). Both zpool iostat and an iostat -Xn show lots of idle disk times, no above average service times, no abnormally high busy percentages. Load on the box is .59. 8 x 3GHz, 32GB ram, 96 spindles arranged into raidz zdevs on OI 147.
