Problems with migrating profiles
Not strictly a Samba question but hopefully someone has a solution. We run samba as a pdc for an office network of 2000/XP machines, the machines is old and dying, I have installed samba 3 on a new server and given this a different domain name. I can join machines to the new domain no problem, I can create new samba users and log in with them on the machines, the problem is when I try to migrate

Re: question about samba roaming profile
...anted it is then necessary to disable roaming profile handling in the registry of each such machine. With samba-3.0.0 (soon to be released) you can have a global profile setting in smb.conf _AND_ you can over-ride this by per-user settings using the Domain User Manager (as with MS Windows NT4/ Win 2Kx). In any case, you can configure only one profile per user. That profile can be either: 1. A profile unique to that user 2. A mandatory profile (one the user can not change) 3. A group profile (really should be mandatory ie:unchangable) - John T, -- John H Terpstra Email: jht@samba.org

Samba 2.2 to 3.0.9 DC upgrade problems
Hi all, I just replaced a client's SUSE 8.0/Samba 2.2 DC with a SUSE 9.2/Samba 3.0.9 DC. Drives were giving trouble, and since that box was a first attempt at a linux DC there was a lot of room for improvement. I copied the profiles and home directories over to the new machine, chowned them to the new users. I also did extracted the securid from the old DC and set it to the new one

However, I am getting a strange error message on the client workstations. The following is the netlogon.bat: echo Setting Current Time... net time \\xavier /set /yes echo Mapping Network Drives to Samba Server Xavier... net use Z:

NT4-Samba Migration Test Results
John, We previously corresponded on our testing of Samba 3.0.0 RC4. Since then, we have downloaded the Samba 3.0.0 Release version for testing with some interesting results. The Setup Major Networks: Solaris (NIS), Windows Native NT4 Domain Our Test Plan We are testing Samba 3.0 as a candidate for replacing the old NT4 Domain. Being a complex production networking environment, we replicated

How to keep local profiles when joining domain?
Hi I hope someone can help We currently have Windows XP Professional PCs that logon to an old Novell Netware 3.12 server. We?re just using the standard Windows Netware client, and each user has a Windows XP User account and password that matches their Novell one. When they logon to Windows, they are automatically authenticated to Novell. However, we are now in the final stages of

SeBackupPrivilege
We're using Samba 3.0.21a-1 on a CentOS 4.2 server (kernel 2.6.9-22.0.2.ELsmp); everything works more or less fine, it's functioning as the PDC with an OpenLDAP back end (setup essentially straight from the Idealx.org playbook), etc. We're trying to mount Windows shares to back them up, and getting "permission denied" errors when trying to read certain files from those

Looking for a set of definitive answers (long)
Question: We recently moved to a Samba-based file server, which holds mission- critical data on it (.dbf files used by our Accounting software, etc.) The goal was to create a file server that had excellent performance while providing Volume Management, but we felt that something like Veritas was overkill for our needs. Design Goals: - Redundant Hardware - Manual Failover (this was an

Rebuild of kernel 2.6.9-67.0.20.EL failure
Hello list. I'm trying to rebuild the 2.6.9.67.0.20.EL kernel, but it fails even without modifications. How did I try it? Created a (non-root) build environment (not a mock ) Installed the kernel.scr.rpm and did a rpmbuild -ba --target=`uname -m` kernel-2.6.spec 2> prep-err.log | tee prep-out.log The build failed at the end: Processing files: kernel-xenU-devel-2.6.9-67.0.20.EL Checking
