Kernel panic on zpool import. 200G of data inaccessible! assertion failed: zvol_get_stats(os, nv) == 0
...rror. http://prestonconnors.com/zvol_get_stats.jpg At first I thought it was a copy of my screenshot but I see his terminal is white and mine is black. Looks like the problem has been around since 2009 although my problem is with a newly created mirror pool that had plenty of space available (200G in use out of about 500G) and no snapshots were taken. Similar discussion with discouraging lack of follow up: http://opensolaris.org/jive/message.jspa?messageID=376366 Looks like the defect, it''s closed and I see no resolution. https://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=5682...

Memory consumption for rsync -axv --delete
Hi, I have been using rsync for many years and never had any kind of problem. Lately I am running out of RAM trying to do an incremental backup to a box that only has 2G of RAM. The entire directory structure I'm mirroring is about 200G of files. A minority of subdirectories have many files. Is there a way to do an incremental backup with --delete option that does not use as much memory? Is there a way to tell rsync to use a tempfile instead of RAM for keeping tracking of whatever it does? And would it be useful to add ignores f...

Live CD boot for KVM guest. How?
...r understanding I an trying to solve things not to be end up in a dead end after some years. 1. I created a guest CentOS 6 with 12G total disk (on a iscsi drive). No Desktop, just for terminal use. No LVM, just a simple basic partitioning. 2. Later I wanted to increase the size of total image to 200G. 3. I managed to resize the image to 200G on my iscsi drive. So, there is 188G unallocated/unformatted volume within the guest image. Now, the hardest part. I have to resize the partition. I have been trying to find a way to do that. A search on Google showed that GParted is tool to do that. I...

zvol space consumption vs ashift, metadata packing
I sent a zvol from host a, to host b, twice. Host b has two pools, one ashift=9, one ashift=12. I sent the zvol to each of the pools on b. The original source pool is ashift=9, and an old revision (2009_06 because it''s still running xen). I sent it twice, because something strange happened on the first send, to the ashift=12 pool. "zfs list -o space" showed figures at

Memory consumption for rsync -axv --delete

The source is around 200G and the target box only has 500G total and some of it is used for other data. What I want to do is mirror the source on the target and be able to prune the files that get deleted from the source from the target also. I don't have enough space to back up the whole thing and that is very time con...

Guests using more ram than specified
Hi, today I noticed that one of my HVs started swapping aggressively and noticed that the two guests running on it use quite a bit more ram than I assigned to them. They respectively were assigned 124G and 60G with the idea that the 192G system then has 8G for other purposes. In top I see the VMs using about 128G and 64G which means there is nothing left for the system. This is on a CentOS 7

According to the system information the qemu process uses transparent hugepages and most of the Memory for a VM is reported under AnonHugePages so that looks ok. > Then, qemu itself consume some memory besides...

update - 512 Simultaneous Calls with Digital Recording
...e/index.htm SATA-II is 3Gps I/O. so I am thinking implement this solution for recording large amount of simultaneous calls. My proposed solution is: CPU: Prentium 4 Dual core 3.2G or higher RAM: 2G or more OS HDD: 2 x 80G SATA-II HDD for RAID 1 (for OS) Separate HDD for voice recording: 1 x 200G SATA-II HDD standalone Voice recording format: WAV I did a test on my Asterisk PBX. One leg of 61 seconds WAV voice recording use 947564 bytes of hard disk. I did an optimal estimate of numbers of simultaneous calls with 3Gps without thinking of CPU and system limitation. Two legs: 947564...

A Billion Files on OCFS2 -- Best Practices?
We have an application that has many processing threads writing more than a billion files ranging from 2KB ? 50KB, with 50% under 8KB (currently there are 700 million files). The files are never deleted or modified ? they are written once, and read infrequently. The files are hashed so that they are evenly distributed across ~1,000,000 subdirectories up to 3 levels deep, with up to 1000 files

Expanding a virtual block device
Hi list. I''m running Xen 4.0.1 on Debian. I''m trying to live resize a block device : - I have a arbitrary block device in my dom0 (/dev/mapper/vm-vol42). - I start a PV domain with that device as a disk (disk = [''phy:/dev/mapper/vm-vol42,xvda,w'']). - I resize vm-vol42 in the dom0 (adding size only) - the dom0 sees the device''s new size. -

Video drivers, bittorrent and Centos 5?

I forget where, and natually I didn't bookmark it, but there was one web site that provided the exact working solution. From then on,...

Re: Guests using more ram than specified
...culate the actual maximum > amount of RAM I can assign to the guests on a HV without overcommitting RAM? Well, this is an undecidable problem. One thing that may help is to use hugepages to back the memory for your guests. Because if you use the ordinary system pages, the translation table for ~200G is gonna be gigantic. Remember, that the table is counted in for memory usage. Then, qemu itself consume some memory besides guest memory. How much? Nobody is able to tell. Michal
